Vedanta Aluminium Installs 1,700 Solar Lights Across Odisha, Deepens Energy Conservation Efforts on National Energy Conservation Day

Bhubaneswar, swa news :  Marking National Energy Conservation Day,Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, has expanded its community-focused energy conservation efforts across Odisha by installing 1,700 solar lights, including 1,280 household solar lights in Lanjigarh and 421 solar streetlights across key mining regions. As part of its broader push to promote responsible energy consumption and clean-energy access, the company has also rolled out awareness programmes aimed at enhancing safety, sustainability and energy-use efficiency across rural and semi-urban communities.

As part of Energy Conservation Week (7–13 December 2025), Vedanta Aluminium strengthened clean-energy access at the grassroots level through large scale solar lighting installations and community engagement across Lanjigarh, its mining regions and Jharsuguda.These efforts reinforce its broader commitment to inclusive development and low-carbon growth.

Alongside its community initiatives, Vedanta Aluminium continues to advance its clean-energy transition at the operational level. In FY25, the organisation consumed 1.57 billion units of renewable energy, achieved 378 million units of energy savings, and reduced GHG-emissions intensity by 8.96% since FY21. Itis also progressing towards securing ~1,500 MW of renewable power through long-term power purchase agreements as part of its 2030 decarbonisation roadmap.

Commenting on the initiatives, Rajiv Kumar, CEO, Vedanta Aluminium, said, “Energy conservation for us is as much about communities as it is about operations. By expanding solar access in villages and strengthening efficiency across our plants, we are supporting Odisha’s development while aligning with our vision of ‘Transforming communities, Transforming the Planet & Transforming the Workplace.’”

Vedanta Aluminium conducted a series of outreach and engagement activities involving employees, students and local communities centred on energy consumption reduction, climate awareness and sustainable lifestyles.. These included a cycle rally within the township, awareness sessions across schools, painting, quiz and extempore competitions on energy conservation and climate change. The site also hosted ‘Energy Tank Vedanta’, encouraging new ideas to drive energy savings and reduce carbon emissions.

Regional highlights:

·         Lanjigarh: 1,280 solar lights distributed across 16 villages, improving household access to clean energy. 140 solar streetlights installed across 33 villages, benefiting over 10,000 community members

·         Mining regions: 421 solar-powered streetlights installed across villages in Kalahandi, Rayagada, Sundargarh and Jharsuguda, benefitting over 15,000 residents and reducing about 49 tonnes of CO₂-equivalent emissions annually

·         Jharsuguda: Energy Conservation Week observed through community, student and employee participation with awareness programmes conducted across 14 schools through employee volunteering. A cycle rally was also conducted alongside innovation platforms showcasing solutions for sustainable mobility, energy efficiency and carbon reduction

These initiatives reflect Vedanta Aluminium’s holistic approach to sustainability, combining operational excellence with community empowerment. By expanding clean-energy access at the grassroots and driving efficiency across its operations, the company is contributing to Odisha’s development and India’s broader decarbonisation goals, ensuring that progress for industry goes hand-in-hand with progress for people.
