Bhubaneswar,swa news : The Founder of KIIT and KISS Dr Achyuta Samanta held extensive deliberations on Monday with FIVB and Volleyball Federation during his visit to its headquarters in Switzerland for the promotion and development of volleyball at the grassroots level through KIIT-KISS.
FIVB serves as the leading international governing body for volleyball and the visit followed an invitation extended to him.
The meeting with FIVB officials focused on the advancement of volleyball at the grassroots level in India, particularly within schools in Odisha. Dr. Samanta, along with Dr. Ary Graça, President of the FIVB Volleyball Foundation, FIVB President Fabio Azevedo, and FIVB Director General Steve Tutton, participated in this meeting.
Volleyball made good progress in India during the tenure of Dr Samanta as President of FIVB. However, FIVB officials regretted that there has been a lack of significant progress in the volleyball in India after Dr Samanta’s tenure ended.
During the meeting, FIVB announced the establishment of multiple Centres of Excellence at KIIT and KISS to enhance the promotion of volleyball in India, particularly in Odisha. These centres will offer advanced training for both players and coaches. Additionally, an academic programme will be implemented for volleyball coaches and referees.
The FIVB officials have committed to involving 400 schools in Odisha in this initiative, ensuring that each school receives volleyballs and nets.
In addition, the FIVB will provide coaches to enhance the promotion of beach Volleyball in India considering the coastal belt in India having. The FIVB will visit KIIT and KISS to review the volleyball development initiatives undertaken in Odisha every year. Expressing satisfaction over this, Dr. Samanta said, this will lead to significant development of both volleyball and beach volleyball in Odisha and fostering sports talent at the grassroots level.
Both organizations are committed to promoting youth engagement in volleyball while creating opportunities for education, empowerment, and development through sports.
