Guwahati, swa news : Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today inaugurated the new terminal at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA), marking one of India’s fastest airport infrastructure deliveries—from concept to commissioning in under a year.

Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister described the inauguration as part of a wider Vikas ka Utsav in Assam and the Northeast. He highlighted Assam’s growing role as India’s eastern gateway under the Act East policy, noting that the bamboo-inspired terminal symbolises strength, sustainability and the region’s contribution to Viksit Bharat. Developed by Guwahati International Airport Limited and operated by Adani Airport Holdings Limited, the terminal—named “The Bamboo Orchids”—blends modern design with local identity, using indigenous bamboo and nature-inspired architecture.

Commenting on the occasion, Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani said the project demonstrates how world-class airport infrastructure can be delivered swiftly while remaining deeply rooted in regional culture.

The new terminal strengthens connectivity, supports economic growth and reinforces Guwahati’s position as the Northeast’s key aviation hub. Equipped with DigiYatra-enabled processing, smart check-in systems and expansive passenger areas, it is designed to handle 13.1 million passengers annually by 2032. The overall airport development represents an investment of ₹5,000 crore, including ₹1,000 crore earmarked for Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facilities. Planned integrated domestic and international cargo infrastructure will further boost trade, logistics and employment generation across the region.
