Baminipal, May 2, 2026: The 121st birth anniversary of the legendary Pandit Raghunath Murmu, revered as ‘Guru Gomke’, was celebrated with great fervour in Bamnipal. The event was organised by Tata Steel Foundation (TSF), in collaboration with Baba Tilka Majhi Adivasi Club, Bamnipal, and ‘The Adivasi Socio Education and Cultural Association’ (ASECA), Jajpur. The commemoration saw an impressive turnout, with more than 550 members of the Santhal community gathering to pay their respects to the visionary scholar who developed the ‘Ol Chiki’ script.
The programme was graced by several dignitaries including Manoranjan Murmu, President, ASECA, Rairangpur, and Dukhu Kisku, Superitending Engineer, Water Resources Department, Government of Odisha, Adarsh Agarwal, Head, FAP Bamnipal, Tata Steel, Deepak Jena from the Bajrangbali Truck Association, Rajat Satpathy, Bamnipal Unit Head, TSF, and Ramesh Chandra Murmu, President of the ASECA Jajpur Branch.
Throughout the proceedings, the speakers reflected on the profound impact of Guru Gomke’s contributions to tribal society and emphasised on his pivotal role in preserving Santhali identity, language, and culture. The event concluded with a shared commitment to upholding the values and cultural advancements championed by Pt. Raghunath Murmu throughout his life.
