Tata Steel Foundation Celebrates Pandit Raghunath Murmu’s Birth Anniversary

Bamnipal,swa news : Tata Steel Foundation, along with Baba Tilka Majhi Club, Bamnipal and Adivasi Socio Education and Cultural Association (ASECA), Kalinganagar, observed the birth anniversary of Pandit Raghunath Murmu, the pioneer of the Olchiki script, on May 12, 2025, at Bamnipal, Odisha.

Over 500 people attended the event, including community leaders, women, youth, and students, celebrating the rich linguistic and cultural heritage of the Santali community. The Honourable MLA of Telkoi, Dr. Fakir Mohan Naik, graced the occasion as Chief Guest, while Mr. Ashwini Bhanjan Murmu, noted Santali writer and Santali Wikipedia administrator, joined as Guest of Honour.

The programme included the felicitation of the Olchiki language teachers and students from the Kalinganagar ecosystem, recognising their exemplary contributions toward preserving and promoting the Olchiki language.

Adding to the event, Olchiki language students presented a role play focused on innovative ways to promote the use of Olchiki in tribal regions of Kalinganagar. The initiative underlined the growing awareness and ownership of linguistic identity among the tribal youth.

Speaking on the occasion, Honourable MLA Dr. Naik recognised Tata Steel Foundation’s sustained efforts in preserving the tribal languages.
