Balasore,swa news : TP Northern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPNODL) has implemented proactive measures to ensure reliable power supply and efficient management of peak demand during the upcoming summer. The company anticipates a peak demand of 1,555 MW in its operational areas this year. With a focus on preventative maintenance, advanced technology adoption and consumer safety, TPNODL is further strengthening its efforts to deliver quality and reliable power supply across Northern Odisha.
Key initiatives include the integration of cutting-edge technologies such as infrared cameras, drone-based audits, and ultrasound scanning to enable condition-based monitoring and timely resolution, thereby minimizing the risk of untimely failures. A dedicated workforce of 7,000+ staff members under the annual maintenance contract actively monitors and maintain substations, lines, network elements and distribution transformers to ensure seamless operations and quality power supply.
The company has also established a 24×7 Power System Control Centre supported by satellite control rooms at division and circle levels for real-time monitoring and swift response to disruptions. Safety officers at divisional levels enforce strict adherence to safety protocols, while priority restoration measures are in place to ensure uninterrupted supply to critical establishments, including hospitals, public health centers and district headquarters. Emergency preparedness has been bolstered by adequate manpower, logistical support, essential equipment and materials.
Network upgradation measures include upgrading 724.2 Ckm of 11kV and 222.7 Ckm of 33kV conductors, converting bare conductors to AB cables, Distribution Transformer upgradation and installation of cyclone-resilient spun concrete poles along the coastal belt. Extensive tree trimming is also a regular activities specifically undertaken before the onset of summer. The implementation of underground cables further improves network resilience. Overhead fault passage indicators will be helpful in quick detection and restoration of faults thereby reducing downtime. TPNODL is also leveraging technical advancements, including Power Transformer health indexing, on-site overhauling, and SCADA-enabled monitoring centers in Bhadrak, Jajpur, Keonjhar and Baripada, as part of its efforts to enhance operational excellence and timely maintenance.
