Jharsuguda, swa news : Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, reaffirmed its commitment to advancing community health and preventive care through a series of grassroots initiatives this week in Jharsuguda. The company’s efforts included observing Global Handwashing Day through awareness sessions and supporting the Pulse Polio Immunization Program in close coordination with the District Health Department, Jharsuguda.
Global Handwashing Day, celebrated on 15 October each year, underscores the simple act of handwashing with soap as an effective and affordable way to prevent diseases. It also highlights the importance of hand hygiene, appropriate glove use and awareness of the environmental impact of healthcare materials. As part of this campaign, Vedanta Aluminium launched a week-long awareness programs across neighboring villages and schools, with an estimated outreach of over 3,000 community members.
A session led by doctorswas organized to educate community members on the importance of handwashing, followed by a live demonstration by paramedical staff illustrating the correct steps of hand hygiene. To encourage wider community participation, individuals who volunteered to demonstrate proper handwashing practices were provided with hand hygiene kits containing soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, tongue cleaner and shampoo pouches. Educational leaflets highlighting the correct steps of handwashing were also distributed to reinforce daily hygiene habits.
In addition to this effort, Vedanta Aluminium also supported the Pulse Polio Immunization Drive 2025, conducted in association with the District Health Department across 17 booths in Jharsuguda. Over 1,486 children were immunized throughout the three-day campaign, ensuring comprehensivecommunity protection against poliovirusand contributing to India’s sustained efforts towardensuringa polio-free nation.
