Jharsuguda, swa news : Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of Aluminium, has achieved a significant road-safety milestone with the successful completion of more than 5,000simulator-based training sessions for Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMV)and Light Motor Vehicles (LMV) drivers. This initiative underscores the company’s commitment to incident-free transportation and a Zero-harm culture across its operational ecosystem.
The HMV & LMV Simulator Training Centre equips drivers with real-road judgment and defensive driving proficiency before they operate within or around the plant.Using Virtual Reality (VR) andAugmented Reality (AR), the programme delivers a structured, technology-driven experience that evaluates participants on critical skills such as reaction time, anticipation, peripheral vision, and judgment. Drivers practice advanced maneuvers like reversingin precision driving zones, navigation in figure-8 tracks, parallel and reverse parking, safe merging into traffic and defensive driving across multiple terrains and weather conditions. The approach prioritizes practical learning and behavioral safety, ensuring drivers internalize safe-driving discipline rather than merely qualify.
In September 2025,the program expanded to include Vehicle & Driving (V&D) compliance training, reinforcing accountability. Since its rollout in May 2025, enrolled drivers have completed corrective simulator training, showing marked improvement in on-road discipline and behavioral safety. Drivers who need additional guidance undergo refresher training before being reauthorized to drive, creating a robust compliance framework.
Appreciating the milestone, C. Chandru, CEO – Vedanta Jharsuguda, said,“Road safety is not just an operational requirement, but more of a culture of accountability. We are ensuringthat every driver who enters our ecosystem is equipped with awareness, precision, and discipline. Technology-enabled learning is building a transportation environment where safe driving becomes instinctive and long-term.
A participant who recently completed the simulator training shared, “The simulation experience felt exactly like driving on real roads, especiallyin rain, fog or merging traffic. It helped us understand the risks we face every day and how to manage them safely. Today, I drive with more confidence, patience and responsibility.”
Looking ahead, Vedanta Aluminium aims to trainall the registered drivers by July 2026, withmandatory certification for Admin and Business Partner drivers, targeted corrective training for those who require additional guidance, and periodic skill reinforcement through scheduled refreshers. The The initiative is a key enabler in building a safe, predictable and Zero-harm transportation environment across the operations.
