Dhamra Port Crosses 48.80 MMT Cargo Milestone, Reinforcing Its Role in India’s Growth Story

Dhamra, April 3, 2026: The Dhamra Port Company Limited (DPCL) has achieved a major milestone by handling a total cargo volume of 48.80 million metric tons (MMT) in the current financial year, surpassing last year’s figure of 46.08 MMT. The achievement reflects strong operational performance across key segments, including railway operations, dry cargo handling, ship-to-ship (STS) operations, and overall throughput.

According to the latest consolidated figures, DPCL has set multiple operational records, highlighting its growing contribution to India’s maritime and logistics sector.

Highest-Ever Railway Handling: In a significant boost to rail evacuation and reception efficiency, DPCL recorded its highest-ever railway movement in a month with 912 rakes(with loading of 320 rakes and unloading of 592 rakes). The previous benchmark stood at 880 rakes, marking a notable improvement in rail logistics capacity.

Strong Dry Cargo Performance (Monthly): The port reported a monthly ever highest dry cargo handling volume of 4.37 MMT surpassing previous record of 4.11 MMT, underlining its strengthened capability in bulk cargo operations and efficient cargo management systems.

Ship-to-Ship Operations Gain Momentum: DPCL’s ship-to-ship (STS) operations ever highest handled 0.61 MMT during March 26, contributing to an annual STS volume of 4.38 MMT, which surpass the previous record of 3.77 MMT, indicating consistent growth in offshore cargo transfer activities. This annual record is historic high in STS operation.

Record Total Cargo Throughput: The total cargo handled by DPCL reached 48.80 MMT during the financial year, surpassing the previous record of 46.08 MMT. This achievement reflects the port’s enhanced operational efficiency and infrastructure capacity.

MonthlyTotal Cargo Performance Peaks: DPCL achieved all time high monthly cargo handling of 5 MMT milestone in Mar. 26 surpasses previous best of 4.64 MMT.

Annual Dry Cargo Performance Peaks: Annual dry cargo handling also reached a new high of 42.80 MMT, exceeding the previous record of 42.06 MMT. This growth reinforces DPCL’s position as a key player in bulk cargo handling.

Key Drivers Behind the Performance: DPCL attributed its strong performance to two primary focus areas i.e- Infrastructure Development and Operational Excellence. Continued investments in new railway lines, expanded stack yard facilities, and mechanised port operations have significantly boosted capacity and efficiency. Apart from this, a strategic investment roadmap combined with disciplined execution has resulted in improved cargo handling outcomes.

DPCL attributed the record outcomes to collaborative efforts across the maritime ecosystem, led by officials of Custom, Indian Railways, regulatory agencies, Immigration, the Odisha Government, District Authorities, esteemed customers and its committed workforce, driving innovation and sustainable port growth.
