Jharsuguda, 10July, 2026: Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, marked Van Mahotsav 2026 through biodiversity conservation and afforestation initiatives across its operations in Odisha. Bringing together employees, local communities, students and grassroots organisations, the company planted over 1,100 saplings and dispersed more than 750 seed balls to support natural regeneration. The initiative focused on expanding green cover, promoting native species and strengthening local ecosystems. Beyond plantation activities, the programme encouraged greater community wide participation in environmental stewardship and biodiversity conservation. These efforts contribute to climate resilience, ecological balance and long-term sustainability. The initiative reflects Vedanta Aluminium’s continued commitment to responsible growth and environmental protection.
Observed annually during the first week of July, Van Mahotsav serves as India’s flagship afforestation movement, encouraging collective action towards environmental conservation and the protection of natural ecosystems. In keeping with the spirit of the festival, Vedanta Aluminium undertook a series of biodiversity enhancement and plantation initiatives across Odisha, engaging employees, students, local communities and partner organisations. The programme not only contributed to ecological preservation but also strengthened awareness around sustainable environmental practices, underscoring the company’s commitment to responsible growth and long-term climate resilience.
Speaking on the initiative, Mr Rajesh Kumar, CEO, Vedanta Aluminium said, “At Vedanta Aluminium, environmental responsibility is an integral part of how we grow and operate. Our Van Mahotsav initiatives reflect this commitment by bringing together employees, communities and local institutions to support afforestation and biodiversity conservation. As we progress on our journey towards Net Zero carbon emissions, efforts such as these play an important role in enhancing green cover, strengthening ecosystems and creating lasting environmental value.”
The initiative forms part of Vedanta Aluminium’s broader commitment to advancing ecological sustainability across Odisha through afforestation, biodiversity conservation and community-led environmental action. Across its operations, the company has undertaken large-scale plantation and habitat restoration programmes, including the Mo Gachha Mo Parivar campaign in Kalahandi and Rayagada, which aims to plant over 1 lakh fruit-bearing saplings and benefit more than 30,000 rural families. Building on afforestation efforts that have already added over 1.2 lakh trees across the region, Vedanta continues to work closely with communities, educational institutions and grassroots organisations to expand green cover, strengthen biodiversity, support sustainable livelihoods and foster long-term climate resilience across Odisha.
