Bhubaneswar: In the interior villages surrounding the town of Jharsuguda, access to suitable healthcare can sometimesbe a challenge. Distance from urban centres, limited diagnostic facilities and gaps in health awareness are factors that delay timely treatment. It is this reality that Vedanta Aluminium is working to change.

Through sustained community engagement and strategic partnerships with public health authorities, the company has been steadily strengthening healthcare access in the region, bringing essential services closer to thosewhoneed them most.

A recent week-long community health outreach program reflected the intent of this effort. Conducted across 28 villages in collaboration with the District Health Department, the initiative reached over 2,000 people, with a focused emphasis on tuberculosis awareness, preventive healthcare, early diagnosis and familiarizing communities with availablepublic health support systems.

Designed as an ongoing engagement rather than a one-time intervention, these initiatives are integrated into the company’s broader healthcare ecosystem that combines awareness, access and affordability, particularly in rural regions.

Vedanta’s Mobile Health Unit (MHU) initiative is a key aspect of this effort, delivering primary healthcare directly to the doorsteps of rural homes. In FY25, the company’s MHUs provided free primary healthcare services to over 20,000 beneficiaries. Beyond consultations and medicines, the MHUs are also a platform for sustained health education.

During the same period, health awareness activities under the MHU program reached over 1.14 lakh people, covering a wide range of topics including hygiene and sanitation, prevention of communicable and non-communicable diseases, maternal and child health, nutrition, dengue-malaria prevention, de-worming and overall wellness. Together, these sessions have played a key role in improving health literacy and encouraging proactive health-seeking behaviour within communities.

Explaining the company’s approach to community welfare, C Chandru, CEO, Vedanta Jharsuguda, said,“Our community development initiatives are rooted in the belief that accessible and preventive healthcare is fundamental to building stronger communities. From doorstep healthcare through our Mobile Health Units to advanced diagnostics and health awareness programmes, we are committed to enabling early intervention and improving health outcomes in rural areas.”

Complementing its grassroots outreach, the company has also made significant investments in strengthening diagnostic infrastructure in the region. Itsstate-of-the-art diagnostic center in Jharsugudaoffers advanced facilities such as MRI, CT scan, X-ray and ultrasound, along with comprehensive pathology services, medical consultations and preventive health screenings. In FY25, the centre served over 57,000 patients from across Jharsuguda district and beyond.

Dr. Mohan Raj Singharia, a member of the company’sMobile Health Unit (MHU) team, highlighted the importance of sustained community engagement, saying,“Community awareness plays a vital role in addressing medical challenges effectively. When people are better informed, it leads to improved health outcomes. Continued collaboration between industry and the public health system can make a meaningful difference at the grassroots level.”

Through targeted outreach, robust healthcare infrastructure and consistent partnerships, Vedanta Aluminiumcontinues to play an active role in improving healthcare awareness and access, ensuring that quality medical care reaches the last mile, where it matters most.
